THUNDERBOLTS STRIKE DOWN GRIZZLIES

The Windy City Thunderbolts shut out the Gateway Grizzlies Thursday night 16-0 in game two of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark.  Windy City banged out 25 hits in the lop-sided win, establishing a new record for hits by a Grizzlies’ opponent.  It is the first time this year the Grizzlies have been shutout.

Robert Perry paced the Windy City (36-26) attack, going 6-6.  It is the seventh time in Frontier League history the feat has been accomplished.  Perry is the sixth different player to do it.  J.T. Restko was 2-5 with six RBIs.

Windy City scored two runs in the first inning and four more in the second to go up 6-0.  The Thunderbolts scored three more times in the fifth to go up 9-0 and chase Grizzlies starter Nate Melek.  Melek lasted just 4.2 innings.  He allowed nine runs, seven earned, on 15 hits.  He struck out five.

The Grizzlies (25-36) managed just eight hits.  Brandon Peters and Jareck West each had a pair of hits for Gateway.

The Grizzlies and Thunderbolts complete the three-game series Friday night at GCS Ballpark.
