GRIZZLIES DROP SERIES OPENER
SAUGET, IL-Windy City scored seven runs over the final three innings Wednesday night to defeat the Gateway Grizzlies 9-1 in the first of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark.
One night after scoring 17 runs on 17 hits, the Grizzlies (25-35) managed a run on just three hits. Alex Kerins drove in the only run for the home team with a second inning double. Joe Agreste scored the run after being hit by a pitch leading off the inning. Agreste and Jonathan Quigley each also had hits for the Grizzlies.
Windy City (35-26) scored an unearned run in the top of the first and never trailed in the game. They extended the lead to 2-0 with a run in the top of the second. Windy City chased Grizzlies starter Paige Dumont with two runs in the seventh inning on two hits, a hit batter and a sacrifice fly. Dumont gave up four runs, three earned, on six hits over seven innings. He snapped a personal four-game win streak with the loss. He drops to 4-2.
Robert Perry hit a three-run home run in the eighth to make it 7-1. J.T. Restko hit a two-run shot in the ninth for the final margin.
The Grizzlies and Thunderbolts will play game two of the series Thursday night at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is 7:05 pm.
