GRIZZLIES DROP SECOND STRAIGHT TO MINERS
SAUGET, IL-For the second consecutive game the Southern Illinois Miners scored early and often in defeating the Gateway Grizzlies. The Miners scored four times in the first inning and never trailed, beating the Grizzlies 14-3 Monday night in game two of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark. Southern Illinois has now beaten the Grizzlies six consecutive times.
Christian Castorri, appearing in a Grizzlies uniform for the first time since 2006, started for the Grizzlies and lasted just 3.2 innings. He allowed five runs on six hits in the loss. Castorri was signed Monday after pitching the last two-plus seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ organization.
The Miners (32-36) hit four home runs Monday night. Adam Hale led the way for the Miners, hitting his first home run and driving in five runs.
The Grizzlies (24-34) managed just seven hits against four Southern Illinois hurlers. Jareck West had a pair of hits and a stolen base. He was 2-4 with two runs scored. Stephen Holdren drove in two runs in the loss. Holdren was 1-4. Joe Agreste was 1-3 and added an RBI on a bases loaded walk.
The Grizzlies and Miners will play the finale of the three-game set Tuesday at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
