GRIZZLIES DROP OPENER TO MINERS
The Southern Illinois Miners defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 11-3 Sunday afternoon in the opener of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark.
The Miners (31-26) opened up an otherwise close game with a three-run seventh inning and a five-run ninth.
The Grizzlies (24-33) scored three runs on three solo home runs. Charlie Lisk, Brandon Johnson and Nate Lape each homered for the Grizzlies.
Lisk finished the day 2-4 with the home run. He leads the Frontier League with 21 home run and 59 RBIs this season.
Lape, a true rookie from Marshall University, homered in the seventh for his first professional hit.
Mark Brackman (3-7) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. Brackman allowed three runs on six hits in five innings of work. He walked three and struck out two.
The Grizzlies and Miners will play game two of the series Monday night at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
