GRIZZLIES WIN RAIN-SHORTENED OPENER INWASHINGTON
WASHINGTON, PA-The Gateway Grizzlies scored early and often Tuesday night, cruising to a 13-5 win over the Washington Wild Things at Consol Energy Park. The game was called after seven innings to heavy rain in Washington.
The Grizzlies (4-7) scored three times in the first inning on four two-out hits. Stephen Holdren started the trend with a double. Chad Rothford and Charlie Lisk each added RBI-doubles before Breck Draper singled to drive in a run. The Grizzlies added six more in the third inning to chase Wild Things’ starter Aaron Fuhrman. Lisk and Draper each picked up their second RBIs of the game in the inning, Jareck West added two on a single and Adrian Cantu singled to drive in a run to make it 9-0 Grizzlies.
Washington (2-8) scored five unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings to cut the lead to 9-5, before the Grizzlies took control.
Lisk, Draper and Stephen Douglas each picked up RBIs in a four-run sixth inning. Lisk drove in two with a single and finished the night 2-4 with four RBIs. Draper finished 4-4 with three RBIs and now has nine RBIs to lead the team.
Mark Brackman earned the win for the Grizzlies. Brackman tossed six innings, allowing all five runs, four earned, on nine hits. He struck out four and improved to 1-1.
The Grizzlies and Wild Things will play the second game of a three-game series Wednesday night in Washington. First pitch is set for 6:05 central time.
