GRIZZLIES WIN SECOND IN SERIES OVER WASHINGTON

WASHINGTON, PA-Joseph Scaperotta and Adrian Cantu each drove in four runs Wednesday night as the Gateway Grizzlies scored a come-from-behind 10-7 win in game two of a three-game series at Consol Energy Park.  The Grizzlies have now won two straight in the series and four in a row over Washington in the season series.

Scaperotta’s three-run double in the top of the ninth inning snapped a 7-7 tie.

The loss is a franchise-record seventh-straight for the Wild Things.

Washington (2-9) got out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the first inning against Grizzlies starter Joel Boeschen. Boeschen allowed the four runs on three first inning hits and two walks.  Boeschen would settle down and the Grizzlies would come roaring back.

Alex Kerins opened the fourth inning with a hit, then Stephen Douglas followed with a bunt for a hit.  Jareck West got the Grizzlies on the board with a run scoring double.  Cantu followed with his third home run of the year, a three-run shot,  to even the score at four apiece.  Cantu’s third homer of the year, leading off the fifth, put the Grizzlies on top 5-4.  Washington answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at five.  Cantu finished 2-5 with the two homers and four RBIs.

Boeschen settled in to throw seven innings for the Grizzlies, allowing five runs on five hits.  He struck out nine and now leads the Frontier League with 22 strikeouts.

Scaperotta crushed the first pitch he saw leading off the sixth to put the Grizzlies up 6-5.  Charlie Lisk made it 7-5 Grizzlies with an RBI-double in the seventh.

Scaperotta finished 2-4 with the home run, double and four RBIs.  Lisk was 2-4 with an RBI and is now hitting .500 (11-22) with 10 RBIs in six games with the Grizzlies.

The Wild Things tied the score with a pair of runs off Grizzlies’ reliever Jordan Craft in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Despite the runs, Craft earned the win to improve to 2-0.  John Maschino pitched the bottom of the ninth for the Grizzlies.  He walked two but struck out two to earn his, and the club’s, first save of the year.

The Grizzlies will go for the sweep Thursday night in Washington.  First pitch is set for 6:05 central.
