GRIZZLIES DROP SECOND IN SERIES TO ‘HAWKS

 

LOVES PARK, IL-The Gateway Grizzlies built a 3-0 lead after two innings Saturday night, but couldn’t make it stand, falling to the Rockford RiverHawks 7-3 in front of 2,651 at Road Ranger Stadium.

 

Brandon Peters led off the game with a single to right.  Charlie Lisk made it 2-0 Grizzlies with a two-out, two-run home run, his seventh of the year.  Peters made it 3-0 Grizzlies (7-13) in the second inning of with an RBI hit that scored Kevin Kotch.

 

Lisk finished 2-4 with the homer and two RBIs.  He now has 24 RBIs to lead the Frontier League.  Lisk was ejected in the eighth inning after arguing a called third strike.  Peters finished the night 2-5 with the RBI and is 5-9 in the series.

 

Rockford (8-13) scored a pair of runs in the third on three hits off Grizzlies starter Mark Brackman.  They added two more in the fifth to go up for good at 4-3.  One of the runs in the inning was un earned.  The ‘Hawks got another unearned run in the sixth inning  to go ahead 5-3.  Brackman allowed five runs, three earned, on 10 hits over seven innings of work.  He struck out three.

 

Rockford shortstop Jono Brooks hit a two-run homer in the eighth off Grizzlies’ reliever Adam Revelette for the final margin.

 

With the win, Rockford passes the Grizzlies for fourth place in the Frontier League West Division.

 

The Grizzlies and the RiverHawks will conclude the series Sunday afternoon.  First pitch is set for 4:05 pm.
