RASCALS COMPLETE SWEEP OF GRIZZLIES

SAUGET, IL-The River City Rascals completed a four-game sweep of the Gateway Grizzlies Sunday night with a convincing 13-4 win at GCS Ballpark. River City won the four games by a combined 38-14 score. Sunday night the Rascals, banged out 22 hits-the most by a Grizzlies’ opponent since 2005.

River City (4-0) scored a run in the first inning Sunday, the third game they had done so, and never trailed. They sealed the win with an eight-run seventh inning. Scott Houin led the way for River City. He was 3-6 with a three-run home run, his first of the year.

The Grizzlies (0-4) managed a season-high nine hits, but never lead in Sunday’s game or the series. Stephen Holdren paced the Grizzlies. He was 3-3 with two singles, a double and an RBI. Adrian Cantu was 2-5 with a solo home run, his first of the year. Jareck West was 2-5 with an RBI. Kevin Kotch also added an RBI for the Grizzlies.

Nate Melek (0-1) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies, despite lasting longer than the previous three Grizzlies’ starters. Melek allowed seven runs on 15 hits over five innings of work.

The Frontier League takes a day off Monday. The Grizzlies will open a three-game home series Tuesday night against the Washington Wild Things. Game time Tuesday night is 7:05 p.m.
