GRIZZLIES POUND FREEDOM
FLORENCE, KY-The Gateway Grizzlies banged out 15 runs on 15 hits Saturday night, routing the Florence Freedom 15-6 in front of 2,301 at Champion Window Field.
Brad Hough put Florence (6-3) in front with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. The 2-0 lead was the last of the night for the Freedom.
The Grizzlies (3-6) scored four runs in the top of the second inning to go up 4-2 and never trailed again. Joseph Scaperotta put the Grizzlies on the board with his second homer of the year, a three-run shot. The Grizzlies would go on to score four more in the third and five in the fourth to go up 13-3 after four innings. The Grizzlies added single runs in the fifth and the sixth.
Scaperotta finished 3-6 with the homer and five RBIs. Stephen Holdren was 3-5 with his second home run in as many nights, a solo shot in the sixth. Charlie Lisk was 2-5 with two RBIs. Lisk added a two-run homer in the fourth. The homer was the third for Lisk in three games back with the Grizzlies. Jareck West was 3-5 with an RBI.
Nate Melek (1-1) earned the win for the Grizzlies. Melek allowed five runs on seven hits through seven innings. He struck out seven. Melek’s win was the first for a Grizzlies’ starter.
The Grizzlies and Freedom will play the rubber match of the three-game series Sunday evening in Florence. First pitch is set for 5:05 central time.
