GRIZZLIES LOSING SKID HITS FIVE GAMES

SAUGET, ILL.-The Gateway Grizzlies season-opening losing streak hit five games Tuesday night as they fell to the Washington Wild Things 14-5 at GCS Ballpark.

The Wild Things (2-2) got on top early with three runs in the top of the first against Grizzlies starter Shaun Seibert.  Wild Things first baseman Ernie Banks got the scoring started with a two-run homer.

The Grizzlies (0-5) answered with four runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Adrian Cantu, Breck Draper, Alex Kerins and Brandon Peters each added RBIs in the inning to put the Grizzlies up 4-3.  The lead was the first for the Grizzlies all season.

Washington regained the lead on a Grant Psomas two-run home run in the top of the third.  The Grizzlies managed an unearned run in the fourth to tie the game at five.  Washington took control in the fifth, scoring four times, chasing Seibert.  Seibert surrendered nine runs, eight earned, on six hits through four innings.  He walked four and struck out two to fall to 0-1.

Washington added a single run in the eighth, and four more in the ninth to close out the Grizzlies.  Banks capped the scoring in the ninth with his second home run of the game, a three-run shot.  Banks finished with a Washington-record six RBIs for the night.

The Grizzlies were led by Kerins, who was 2-3 with the RBI.

The Grizzlies and Wild Things will meet again Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark.  First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
