GRIZZLIES DROP FINALE IN FLORENCE
FLORENCE, KY-The Florence Freedom scored six times on six hits in the fifth inning Sunday night and went on to defeat the Gateway Grizzlies 10-5 in the finale of a three-game series at Champion Window Field. The Grizzlies managed just four hits in the game. The series-win is the first-ever for the Freedom against the Grizzlies.
All six runs came off starter Adam Bowling, who was making his first start for the Grizzlies. Bowling (0-1) allowed eight total runs on eight hits in just 4.1 innings of work. He struck out three and walked one.
The Grizzlies (3-7) took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth. They managed an unearned run in the second thanks to a pair of Freedom errors to go up 1-0. Brandon Peters singled to drive in a pair in the fourth inning to make it 3-0.
The Freedom (7-3) got a two-run homer from Billy Mottram in the fourth to cut the lead to one, before taking the lead for good with the six-run fifth inning.
The Grizzlies got a pair of runs in the seventh on four consecutive Freedom errors. Florence committed six errors in the game.
Monday is a league-wide off day. The Grizzlies open a three-game series at Washington (PA) on Tuesday night. First pitch against the Wild Things is set for 6:05 p.m. central time.
