GRIZZLIES COMEBACK TWICE FOR DOUBLE-HEADER SWEEP
SAUGET, ILL.-The Gateway Grizzlies, fresh off a walk-off win in game one of a double-header, came back twice in the night-cap to sweep Washington Thursday night at GCS Ballpark. Jareck West was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, forcing Stephen Douglas home and giving the Grizzlies a 9-8 win in game two.
Down 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh the Grizzlies hit three solo home runs to tie the game and force extra innings. Joseph Scaperotta, pinch-hitting, hit his first of the year with one out. Alex Kerins followed with his first of the year to make it 7-6. With two outs, Chad Rothford hit his second of the year to even the score.
Washington (2-4) regained the lead with a run in the top of the eighth. The Grizzlies (2-5) again had an answer. Charlie Lisk led off the inning and walked, then scored on a two-out double by Breck Draper to even the score at eight.
Draper led the way in game two. He was 2-4 with a homer and three RBIs. Charlie Lisk, playing in his first game since being re-acquired by the Grizzlies, was 1-2 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Jordan Craft (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Grizzlies. Craft tossed the final two innings for the win.
The Grizzlies open a three-game series at Florence (Ky.) Friday night. First pitch is set for 6:05 pm, central time.
