FLYERS WITH A WALK-OFF 3-2 WIN ON SUNDAY
SCHAUMBURG, IL-CF Julius Thames(2-5) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th to score Travis Brown (1-2) from third base and give the Schaumburg Flyers (4-4) a 3-2 win over the Joliet JackHammers (3-6) before 3,176 fans at ALEXIAN Field on Sunday afternoon.
The two clubs traded a pair of runs in the 4th inning. In the
RF Wally Backman, Jr. (1-4) hit an RBI single to score Pinckney for a 1-0
The Flyers leadoff man in the 4th inning, C Richard Mercado (1-4), started the frame with a double. 3B Vince Harrison (1-3) hit a single to move Mercado to third base. After 2B Jose Valdez (0-4) popped out to second base, DH Felix Jose (3-4) hit an RBI single to score Mercado for a 1-1 tied score.
In the 5th inning, Schaumburg RF Victor Ferrante (1-4) hit a leadoff double. Brown laid down a sacrifice bunt that advanced Mercado to third base.
The JackHammers tied the game in the 7th inning. SS Kevin Rios (3-4) led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by 2B Johnny Washington (0-2).CF Adam Klein (1-4) hit an RBI triple to score Rios and tie the game once again, this time at 2-2.
In the 9th, JackHammers closer Jason Richardson struck out 1B Jason Colson (0-4) and RF Victor Ferrante (1-4) before issuing a walk to Brown, who stole second base and scored on a single by
Loose Gravel: The JackHammers hit into a triple play in the 6th inning. Avlas led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Pinckney worked a walk and Backman, Jr. came to the plate. The JackHammers started the runners early for a double-steal. Backman, Jr. lined out to second base. Jose Valdez promptly threw to 1B Jason Colson to double off Pinckney. After a delay of a few seconds, Colson made a toss to second base to retire Avlas and complete the triple play.
