JACKHAMMERS HAMMER RAILCATS 6-3

 

JOLIET-Four Joliet JackHammers pitchers combined to strikeout 10 men and the JackHammers scored four runs in the 4th inning for a 6-3 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats in front of 1,866 fans at Silver Cross Field on Thursday night.

 

The JackHammers started the scoring in the third inning against Gary starting pitcher Tom Thornton (0-1). RF Tim Alberts (2-4) led off with a single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by 2B Ryan Arcadia (0-1). CF Adam Klein (2-4) ripped an RBI double to score Alberts and give the JackHammers a 1-0 lead.

 

Joliet held a comfortable lead thanks to four runs scoring in the 4th inning. 1B Freddie Thon (1-3) hit a one-out single and advanced to third base on a double by C Phil Avlas (2-4). 3B Andrew Pinckney (2-4) smacked a two-run double to score both men and give the JackHammers a 3-0 lead. Pinckney led the JackHammers offense with two RBI on Thursday.

 

The inning continued with Pinckney going to third base on a single by Alberts. Arcadia lifted a fly ball to let field to score Pinckney on a sacrifice fly.  LF K.C. Herren (1-3) hit a single to moved Alberts to third base. With Klein at the plate, the JackHammers executed a breathtaking double-steal. Herren took second base as Alberts scored to make it 6-0.

 

The RailCats scored three runs in the 6th inning against Aaron Trolia (1-1), who departed after five innings. He allowed three runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out three for his first victory of the 2009 season. RHP Drew Shetrone (1 IP) and LHP Ryan Paul (1 IP) combined to work the 6th and 7th innings. RHP Jason Richardson pitched the last two innings to get his second save of the 2009 campaign.

 

Loose Gravel: JackHammers pitching recorded 10 strikeouts on Thursday, making all fans in attendance eligible to redeem their ticket stubs for a free baby blossom appetizer at any one of the three Texas Roadhouse restaurants: (Joliet, Tinley Park and Naperville). At any time in the 2009 season, if JackHammers pitchers get seven strikeouts or more, all fans in attendance can exchange their ticket stub for the free appetizer.

 

The JackHammers head to ALEXIAN Field for a six-game road trip and the first of a three-game series against the Schaumburg Flyers. The JackHammers will start LHP Brad Mumma (1-0, 1.50) on the hill against a yet-to-be announced starter for the Flyers on Friday night.
