HERREN ‘HAMMERS JOLIET TO A 3-1 VICTORY

JOLIET-LF K.C. Herren hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to snap a 1-1 tied score and give the JackHammers a 3-1 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts at Silver Cross Field on Saturday night. The JackHammers have a perfect 3-0 exhibition record and head to Windy City tomorrow night at 6:05 at Standard Banks Stadium. The JackHammers’ 2009 season begins at home on May 15, 2009 against the Schaumburg Flyers at Silver Cross Field in Joliet City Center.

The scoring started in the third inning when Joliet SS Kevin Rios led off with a double. He advanced to third base on a groundout by RF Mike Coles. CF Adam Klein lifted a fly ball to center field. Rios tagged up and scored on the sacrifice fly to give the JackHammers a 1-0 lead.

Windy City tacked a single run on the board in the fourth inning. CF Mike Sullivan hit a double against JackHammers RHP Aaron Trolia. A groundout by DH J.T. Resko moved Sullivan to third base. 1B Bryan Cook hit a double to plate Sullivan and tie the game at 1-1.

In the Joliet sixth inning, Klein led off the inning with a walk and stole second base. Herren pulled a pitch from Windy City RHP Mike Thomsen over the left field wall for a 3-1 Joliet lead.

RHP Pat Mahomes got the start on Saturday and tossed two scoreless innings. RHP Aaron Trolia tossed three innings and yielded one run on two hits. LHP Ryan Paul, RHP Drew Shetrone, LHP Devin Anderson and RHP Jason Richardson each put up a scoreless inning of work to round out the game.
