GARY WINS 2^nd STRAIGHT WITH A 9-3 VICTORY ON WEDNESDAY MORNING

JOLIET-The Gary SouthShore RailCats (4-2) utilized a six-run 6^th inning to beat the Joliet JackHammers 9-3 before 6,188 fans on Wednesday morning at Silver Cross Field.

Gary took advantage of an early throwing error to take a 1-0 lead in the 1^st inning. Leadoff man Mike Massaro (1-4) reached on a single against Joliet starter Devin Anderson (0-1). Rob Marconi (3-5) got aboard on a bunt single and Massaro advanced to second base. Jay Pecci (0-5) hit into a fielder’s choice. The JackHammers retired Marconi at second base and Massaro moved to third. He scored on the throwing error to give Gary the early lead.

3B Jeff Beachum (3-4) hit a two-run home run in the 5^th inning to increase the RailCat lead to 3-0.

The visitors sealed the victory with a six-run 6^th inning. Gary batted around, sending nine men to the plate against Joliet pitching. Marconi’s three-run home run to highlight the inning and a 9-0 lead.

Joliet got on the board with a two-run home run in the 6^th inning by K.C. Herren (2-4). 2B Johnny Washington (1-2) led off the inning with a walk and moved to second base on a groundout by Adam Klein (0-4). Herren smacked a home run over the right field wall get the JackHammers within seven runs at 9-2.

Andrew Pinckney (1-4) hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to bring the JackHammers within six runs at 9-3.

The JackHammers and RailCats continue their series at Silver Cross Field on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. It’s our first “Thirst Quenching Thursday” of the 2009 season. The JackHammers will also give away Koozies and Coolers sponsored by the Will County Health Department for the 1^st 1,000 fans through the gates tomorrow night. The JackHammers will send RHP Aaron Trolia (0-1, 0.00) to the mound against LHP Tom Thornton (0-0, 4.50) for the RailCats.
