KINGS AVOID SWEEP IN KALAMAZOO

KALAMAZOO, MI- The Kalamazoo Kings used a four-run seventh inning Sunday afternoon to defeat the Gateway Grizzlies 7-3 and avoid a sweep in the three-game series at Homer Stryker Field.

The Grizzlies (40-35) led 3-2 heading into the frame in which all nine Kalamazoo Kings came to the plate.  Devin Collis (2-1) walked three in the inning and gave up a pair of hits.

Collis went 6.2 innings allowing six runs on six hits.  He walked five but struck out 10.  Grizzlies starters struck out at least 10 hitters in all three starts in the series.  They had 38 strikeouts total.

The Kings (47-28) held a 2-0 lead when the Grizzlies plated three unearned runs in the fifth inning.  Carter McQuigg doubled to drive in the final run of the frame, and ultimately the game for the Grizzlies.

Robbie Minor and Mike Breyman each had a pair of hits for the Grizzlies.  McQuigg was 1-4 with the only RBI of the game.

The Grizzlies, and the Frontier League, take a day off Monday before continuing the season-long 12-game road trip in Evansville.  The Grizzlies and the Otters will meet for the first of three Tuesday night.  Game time is 7:05 p.m. at Bosse Field.
