SAUGET, IL- The Gateway Grizzlies scored seven runs in the second inning Sunday afternoon and never trailed. The Grizzlies won the finale of a three-game series over the Midwest Sliders 11-6 in front 3,686 at GCS Ballpark.
The win moves the Grizzlies (45-42) within one half game of the final wild card spot in the Frontier League, pending what happens in other games to be played later.
Robbie Minor, Willie Keene and Mike Breyman each had a pair of RBIs in the inning. Keene and Minor each singled to drive in two. Breyman hit his 19th homer of the year to cap the seven-run inning.
The two RBIs gave Breyman 73 for the season, tying the Grizzlies single season record. Breyman is now just five hits away from tying the Frontier League's career hits record.
Midwest (26-61) scored four runs in the third on a grand slam by Sean Snell. They added two in the fourth on a two-run double by Miguel Magrass.
Keene finished the day 3-5 with four RBIs. Minor was 1-4 with the two RBIs. He also stole two bases giving him 27 steals for the year, tying the Grizzlies single season mark for steals. The record was set in 2001.
Chris Pecora was 3-3 in the win with an RBI. He also stole two bases.
Sean Siebert (2-1) earned the win in relief for the Grizzlies. Siebert tossed four shutout innings. He allowed four hits and struck out five, while walking just one. Siebert relieved Justin Lilly who allowed six runs over four innings. He walked six and struck out two.
