The Gateway Grizzlies used a familiar formula Wednesday night to defeat the Traverse City Beach Bums. Good starting pitching and timely big hits. The Grizzlies defeated Traverse City, for the fifth consecutive time this year, 7-0 in front of 3,248 at Wuerfel Park.
The Grizzlies improved to a season-high five games over the .500 mark at 38-33 with the win.
Brandon Williams (7-3) tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits. He struck out three. Eric Ridener tossed the final two innings, without allowing a run. He surrendered just a single hit.
Alex Kerins and Carter McQuigg each belted two-run home runs in the game and Mike Breyman added a two-run double to lead the Grizzlies to the series win. Breyman now has a league-high 60 runs batted in. It is the third time in his career he has driven in 60 or more runs.
Traverse City drops to 36-35 with the loss.
