GRIZZLIES OUTSLUG KINGS

 

SAUGET, IL-Trailing 6-0 after two innings, the Gateway Grizzlies fought back and slugged past the Kalamazoo Kings 14-8 Sunday night in game two of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark.

 

The Kings (42-26) scored six runs on seven hits in the second inning to take the 6-0 lead against Grizzlies starter Adam Revelette.

 

The Grizzlies (36-32) used a big inning of their own to take a lead.  The Grizzlies scored seven times on seven hits in the fourth to take a 7-6 lead.  Michael Campbell and Joseph Scaperotta each homered in the inning.  For Scaperotta, the long ball was the first of his pro career.

 

The two teams traded runs in each of the next three half-innings to tie the score at eight.  The Grizzlies took the lead for good with three runs in the seventh on a pair of hits.  The Grizzlies added three more in the eighth to secure the win.

 

Campbell finished 2-4 with a game-high four RBIs.  Scaperotta finished 2-4 with two RBIs.  Chris Pecora was 4-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.  Mike Breyman was 2-6 with three RBIs.

 

Joel Boeschen (4-1) earned the win with two innings in relief.  He allowed an unearned run.  Zack Gray pitched the final two innings to earn his team-leading seventh save.

 

The Grizzlies will try and win their third straight series Monday afternoon.  Game time is 12:05 p.m. at GCS Ballpark.
