CRESTWOOD, IL- The Gateway Grizzlies snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday night with a 3-2 win over the Windy City Thunderbolts in front of 3,333 at Standard Bank Stadium.
The win snapped a 12-game home winning streak for the Thunderbolts (46-33).
The win keeps the Grizzlies (42-38) tied for the final wild card spot in the Frontier League playoffs.
The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead in the third when Breck Draper scored on a wild pitch.
Phil Hawke homered leading off the fifth for Windy City making it a 1-1 game.
Mike Breyman homered to lead off the sixth inning and put the Grizzlies back up by a run. Breyman finished the night 3-5 with the homer and two singles. Breyman is now just 11 hits shy of tying the all-time Frontier League record.
Windy City tied it in the bottom of the inning on a Danny Sawyer home run.
The Grizzlies took the final lead when Carter McQuigg walked with the bases loaded in the eighth inning.
Eric Ridener earned the win for the Grizzlies. Ridener tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of Devin Collis. Ridener struck out four and did not allow a hit. Collis allowed two runs over 6.2 innings of work in the start. He struck out seven and walked only one.
The Grizzlies and the Thunderbolts play the rubber match of the series Sunday afternoon at Standard Bank Stadium. Game time is 3:05 p.m. It is also the finale of a 12-game road trip for the Grizzlies.
