GRIZZLIES FALL TO SLIDERS IN 10
SAUGET, IL- The Gateway Grizzlies gave up six runs in the top of the 10th inning Saturday night, losing to the Midwest Sliders 12-6 in front of a season-high 6,398 fans at GCS Ballpark.
Mike Breyman tied the game in the bottom of the ninth for the Grizzlies with a two-run home run, his 18th of the year. Breyman finished the night 2-4 with the homer and three RBIs. He is now just six hits away from tying the Frontier League's all-time hits record.
The loss keeps the Grizzlies (44-42) one game out of the final playoff spot in the league.
It was the second night in a row the Grizzlies and Sliders played extra innings to decide a back and forth game.
The Sliders (26-60) owned a 5-2 lead after a five-run fifth inning. The Grizzlies had led 2-0 going into the inning.
Charlie Lisk hit his 22nd home run of the year with one out in the fourth. Joseph Scaperotta singled later in the inning to make it 2-0.
Lisk was 1-5. Scaperotta 2-4 with a pair of RBIs.
The Grizzlies committed a season-high four errors which led to six unearned runs for Midwest.
The Grizzlies and Sliders will play the rubber match of the three-game series Sunday afternoon at GCS Ballpark. Game time is 3:05 p.m.
