GRIZZLIES FALL TO RASCALS IN 12 INNINGS

O'FALLON, MO- The Gateway Grizzlies fell one game back in the chase for the Frontier League's final wild card spot Tuesday night, falling to the River City Rascals 6-5 in 12 innings in front of 3,652 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

Phil Laurent hit a walk-off home run off Grizzlies' closer Zach Gray to end the games.  It was the third time in the past four games the Grizzlies have played extra innings.  They have lost two of them.

The Grizzlies are now 0-4 this season at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

Gateway (45-43) trailed 5-3 in the ninth inning, when Mike Breyman evened the score with his 20th homer of the year.  The line shot to left center came off Rascals' closer Jonathan Miller.  Miller (3-5) would stay in the game and eventually earn the win.  In four innings the right-hander fanned eight Grizzlies hitters.

Breyman's homer was his second hit of the night, and the 446th of his career.  He is now just three hits shy of tying the league's all-time hit record.  He finished with three RBIs to give him a franchise record 76 for the season.

Willie Keene and Alex Kerins each had one hit and one RBI for the Grizzlies Tuesday night.

The Grizzlies and Rascals (42-46) will play the second game of the three-game series Wednesday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.  Game time is 7:05 p.m.
