GRIZZLIES DROP SECOND TO RIVER CITY; BREYMAN JUST A HIT AWAY FROM HISTORY

The River City Rascals defeated the Gateway Grizzlies for the fifth consecutive time at T.R. Hughes Ballpark Wednesday night, downing the Grizzlies 4-3 in game two of a three-game series.  The loss drops the Grizzlies two games out of the final wild card spot in the Frontier League.

Mike Breyman homered in the first to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 advantage.  He finished the night 2-4.  He has 21 homers and a franchise-record 77 RBIs for the season.  Breyman is now just a single hit away from tying the Frontier League's all-time hits record.

Luke Barganier was 2-4 for River City, scoring a pair of runs in the first and third innings to give River City a 2-1 lead.  The Rascals (43-46) would score single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to lead 4-1.

The Grizzlies (45-44) picked up an unearned run in the eighth inning to make it 4-2.  They added a run in the ninth on a walk and a hit.  Breyman was left at second when the game ended.

Jake Laber (3-3) earned the win tossing eight innings against the Grizzlies.  He allowed all three runs, two earned, on six hits.  He struck out eight.

Derek Blacksher (9-8) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies.  Blacksher went 7.1 innings allowing four runs on 10 hits.  He struck out five.

The Grizzlies and Rascals conclude the three-game series and the season-series Thursday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.  Game time is 7:05 p.m.
