GRIZZLIES DROP SECOND TO RIVER CITY; BREYMAN JUST A HIT AWAY FROM HISTORY
The River City Rascals defeated the Gateway Grizzlies for the fifth consecutive time at T.R. Hughes Ballpark Wednesday night, downing the Grizzlies 4-3 in game two of a three-game series. The loss drops the Grizzlies two games out of the final wild card spot in the Frontier League.
Mike Breyman homered in the first to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 advantage. He finished the night 2-4. He has 21 homers and a franchise-record 77 RBIs for the season. Breyman is now just a single hit away from tying the Frontier League's all-time hits record.
Luke Barganier was 2-4 for River City, scoring a pair of runs in the first and third innings to give River City a 2-1 lead. The Rascals (43-46) would score single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to lead 4-1.
The Grizzlies (45-44) picked up an unearned run in the eighth inning to make it 4-2. They added a run in the ninth on a walk and a hit. Breyman was left at second when the game ended.
Jake Laber (3-3) earned the win tossing eight innings against the Grizzlies. He allowed all three runs, two earned, on six hits. He struck out eight.
Derek Blacksher (9-8) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. Blacksher went 7.1 innings allowing four runs on 10 hits. He struck out five.
