GRIZZLIES DROP SERIES FINALE TO WASHINGTON
The Washington Wild Things got a pair of solo home runs Thursday night and defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 3-1 in the final game of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark.
The Grizzlies (43-41) are now tied again with Washington (43-41) in the playoff standings. Both teams are just two games out of the final wild card spot.
Chris Sidick hit a solo home run in the third to put Washington up 1-0. Jacob Dempsey made it 2-0 with a solo homer leading off the fourth inning. Dempsey's homer was his third in as many nights. Both came off Grizzlies starter Derek Blacksher. Blacksher (9-7) tossed eight innings but came away with his seventh loss of the year. Blacksher even came back following a 54 minute rain delay between the fourth and fifth innings.
Washington stretched the lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning before the Grizzlies would get on the board.
Charlie Lisk doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. He scored on a throwing error by Wild Things shortstop Brett Grandstrand to make it 3-1. That is as close as the Grizzlies would get.
Lisk finished the night 2-4 with two doubles. Willie Keene was 2-4 with a pair of singles.
