Freedom Named Best “Family Entertainment Value” in the Tri-State Area

Florence, KY - For the second year in a row the Florence Freedom have been named the best “family entertainment value” in the tri-state area in a survey conducted by Northern Kentucky University.

The Freedom offer affordable family fun all summer long. Every ticket at Champion Window Field is under $10, as well as free parking.

“We take pride in offering a great value to all of the tri-sate” says General Manager Kari Rumfield “With today’s economy it is vital to have a place for fans to come and feel as if they are getting a bang for their buck”

The promotional schedule at Champion Window Field is filled for the last 3 weeks the team is home. There are two more Insight Fireworks Fridays and one Kentucky Powerball Thirsty Thursday left.

Going into Wednesday’s second game of a three-game series at Southern Illinois against the Miners, the Freedom remained just 2 ½ games out of a playoff spot. Tied for third in the East Division with Traverse City, Florence sported a 36-34 record. Aside from the division winners who automatically receive a post-season berth, the two teams with the best records that don’t win a division will qualify for the playoffs. Southern Illinois and Kalamazoo are in the lead in the East and West Division, respectively. Before Wednesday’s games, Washington (36-33) was a half-game in front of the Freedom in the East, while Gateway (37-33) held a one-game edge on Florence and Windy City (38-31) was 2 ½ games in front.

Freedom infielder Kelly Hunt leads the league in home runs with 23, four more than Gateway catcher Charlie Lisk. Hunt’s .328 batting average ranks fifth-best, and the Bowling Green, Ohio resident’s .706 slugging percentage is tops in the league.  Center fielder Garth McKinney has scored the most runs in the league with 58, one more than Freedom teammate Angel Molina.

Second-year left fielder Ryan Basham has made an impact on the Freedom career statistical lists. The 2007 Frontier League Rookie of the Year doubled home a run in the fifth inning of Tuesday’s 5-4 win at Southern Illinois for his 43rd career double. That enabled him to pass Matt Singer (2003-05) atop the career chart. Basham also recently passed former Freedom slugger and fellow Michigan State University product Kyle Geswein for the all-time lead in RBIs and total bases.

The game on Sunday, August 31st has been changed to a 1:05 game time due to the WEBN fireworks.

Ticket packages and group outings are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting Champion Window Field or by calling the Freedom office at (859) 594-HITS.

Florence Freedom is a member of the Frontier League, a 12-team Independent Professional Baseball League established in 1993. The Freedom play a 96 game schedule with 54 home games between late May and early September.
