BLUEFISH FLOUNDER late, flock win in 10
Bridgeport, CT – August 9th – The Bridgeport Bluefish could not a hold a five-run lead in the ninth as the Long Island Ducks stormed back to win 13-10 in 10 innings on Saturday. The Ducks scored five runs in the ninth inning capped by a Damian Rolls two-run single to tie the game then scored the go-ahead run in the tenth on a Ray Navarrete RBI double. Bridgeport drops to 13-14 in the second half with the loss.
The 'Fish scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give them a 10-5 edge heading into the ninth. Closer Eddy Ramos could not record an out and left with the bases loaded in a 10-8 game. Wes Wilkerson (1-7) gave up the game-tying single to Rolls who added two more RBIs in the 10th inning to finish three-for-five with four RBIs. Nook Logan finished three-for-five with an RBI and two runs scored including the game-winner.
Long Island erased a Bridgeport lead highlighted by nine unanswered runs. Bridgeport took a 6-5 lead in the seventh inning on a Wilson Batista two-run single. The Bluefish infielder finished four-for-six with three RBIs and a run. Branden Florence (run), Luis Lopez (double, run) and Ryan Bear (RBI, three runs) all recorded three hits apiece for the Park City Nine.
Vic Darensbourg (2-2) earned the victory in relief for the Ducks. The Long Island lefty gave up two hits in 1.1 scoreless innings with one batter fanned. Todd Williams picked up his seventh save of the season with a scoreless tenth inning. Wilkerson allowed three runs to score on three hits and a walk over his 1.2 innings to suffer the loss.
The Bluefish look to avoid the series sweep tomorrow in a 2:05 P.M. contest. Matt Sweeney (1-5) will make his second start since joining the Bluefish and square off against Long Island starter Lance Davis (0-1).
