COLLIS PITCHES GRIZZLIES PAST 'BUMS
TRAVERSE CITY, MI- Gateway Grizzlies left-hander Devin Collis allowed a run on one hit Tuesday night as the Grizzlies defeated the Traverse City Beach Bums 6-1 at Wuerfel Park.
Collis (2-0) struck out seven and retired the final 17 hitters he faced in just his second start for the Grizzlies.
The Beach Bums (36-34) scored the run in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead. Brad Roblin tripled with one out in the inning then scored on a groundout.
The Grizzlies (37-33) took the lead for good with a three-run fourth inning. Charlie Lisk crushed a pitch from Traverse City starter Steve Roberts to right for his team-leading 19th homer of the year. The three-run shot gave the Grizzlies a 3-1 lead.
Mike Breyman homered leading off the sixth inning to make it 4-1 Grizzlies. The home run was Breyman's 421st career hit, moving him past Grizzlies manager Phil Warren to second on the Frontier League's all-time hit list. With 26 games remaining Breyman is 28 away from tying the all-time hits record of 449 held by Kalamazoo manager Fran Riordan.
The Grizzlies added a run in the eighth when Alex Kerins was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Kevin House led off the ninth inning with his first home run since returning to the Grizzlies.
