SAUGET, IL- Mike Breyman snapped an 0-12 streak with a walk-off RBI double Friday night in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Grizzlies a 6-5 win over the Midwest Sliders in front of 5,844 at GCS Ballpark.
Breyman's double, off the center field wall, scored Alex Kerins from second base.
The win and a Traverse City loss puts the Grizzlies (44-41) within one game of the Frontier League's final playoff spot.
Breyman's double puts him eight hits shy of tying the all-time hits record in the league.
The Grizzlies and Sliders traded leads three times Friday night.
The Grizzlies opened up a 2-0 second inning lead with a pair of solo home runs by Charlie Lisk and Carter McQuigg. Midwest (25-60) tied the game with single runs in the third and fourth innings. Dom Lombardi hit a two out, two-run homer in the sixth put the Sliders up 4-2.
The Grizzlies made it 4-3 in the sixth when Willie Keene scored on an error after doubling to lead off the inning. Kerins' fourth homer of the year, a two-run shot, put the Grizzlies up 5-4 in the seventh inning. Kerins finished 2-4.
The Sliders tied it with a run on a pair of hits in the eighth inning.
Kerins singled to lead off the 10th for the Grizzlies. Robbie Minor sacrificed him to second and Keene was intentionally passed before Breyman came up.
Eric Ridener (5-2) earned the win after tossing a perfect 10th inning. He struck out one. Jon Dandridge suffered the loss for the Sliders. He pitched 2.1 innings in relief. He had not allowed a base runner until Kerins lead off single in the 10th.
