RAMSEY, BLUE CRABS PINCH 'FISH
Bridgeport, CT – August 4th – The Bridgeport Bluefish dropped the first of a four-game set against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 7-2 on Monday. Bridgeport continues to struggle after a tough road trip as they fall to 12-11 in the second half. Southern Maryland improves to an Atlantic League-best 15-8 with the victory.
The Bluefish could only muster three hits off Blue Crabs starter Keith Ramsey (3-4). The Southern Maryland southpaw allowed one run over his eight innings of work with one walk and five strikeouts. After giving up two hits in the third inning, Ramsey allowed just one base runner for the remainder of his outing.
The first Bridgeport run came off the bat of catcher Luis Rodriguez in the third inning. In his first at-bat with the Bluefish, Rodriguez drilled a Ramsey offering into the net in left-center field to bring his team within one run. Another bright spot for Bridgeport continues to be Branden Florence, who finished the evening two-for-four.
The Blue Crabs immediately responded to the solo blast with a bases-clearing double by outfielder John Ramistella in the fourth. Ramistella's only hit of the evening, a bouncing ball down the third base line, gave Southern Maryland a 5-1 lead.
Bluefish pitchers had issues keeping both George Sandel and Chris Maples off base the entire evening. Sandel finished one-for-two with four walks, two runs scored and two RBIs in the lead off spot while Maples finished three-for-four with two runs.
Southern Maryland plated six of their runs off Bridgeport starter Mike Connolly (1-1). The Bluefish lefty gave up ten hits and walked five over his 4.1 innings to suffer the loss.
Bridgeport looks to bounce back tomorrow when the team will host their last 10:35 A.M. game. The newest Park City pitcher Matt Sweeney (1-6) will take the hill to face Southern Maryland's Ryan Bicondoa (10-4).
