RAILCATS WIN 13-3 ON WEDNESDAY

 

GARY, IN-The Gary SouthShore RailCats (48-38) scored 13 runs on 13 hits to beat the Joliet JackHammers 13-3 before 3,768 fans at U.S. Steel Yard on Wednesday night. The JackHammers  (38-48) opened the first game of a five-game series in Gary with the loss.

Joliet scored a single run in the first inning against Gary LHP Jeremy Plexico (9-3). Juan Diaz (2-4) hit a two-out single and moved to third base on a double by Cory Harris (1-4). Joey Gomes (2-3) hit an RBI single over the head of Gary 2B Eric McNamee for a 1-0 JackHammers lead.

 

Gary pushed across four runs in the fourth inning against Joliet RHP Nate Sevier (4-7). Eric McNamee (3-4) led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a single by Tanner Townsend (2-5). Eric Blakely (1-4) hit an RBI single to score McNamee and tie the game at 1-1.

 

The Railcats scored three more runs on just one hit in the inning to take a 4-1 lead.

 

The JackHammers scored a single run in the fifth inning to get within two runs at 4-2. Diaz led off the inning with a double and moved to third base on a groundout by Harris. Steve Garrabrants (2-4) hit an RBI single to score Diaz.

 

Gary scored five runs in the sixth inning to take a commanding 9-2 lead.

 

Sevier lasted five and one-thirds innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits to suffer the loss.

 

In the ninth inning, the JackHammers scored another run when Garrabrants doubled and moved to third on a fly out by Nick Prosise (0-1). Chris Kinsey (0-4) grounded out to make the score 13-3.

 

The RailCats scored four runs over the seventh and eighth innings to seal the victory.

 

Loose Gravel: The JackHammers inserted RHP Blake Ricken (0-0) into LF in the eighth inning. Ricken becomes the first JackHammers pitcher to play the outfield in 2008.

 

The JackHammers and RailCats continue their five-game series on Thursday night. LHP Dustin Taylor (4-2, 7.07) gets the start for the JackHammers against RHP Garret Holleran (1-3, 5.95) for the RailCats.
