JACKHAMMERS BEAT GOLDEYES 3-0

 

JOLIET, IL-RHP Aaron Trolia (9-6) pitched five scoreless innings leading the way for the Joliet JackHammers (43-52), who used four pitchers to toss a six-hit shutout of the Winnipeg Goldeyes (50-45) by a score of 3-0 before 4,411 fans at Silver Cross Field on Saturday night.  

 

The JackHammers scored a single run in the first inning against the Goldeyes starting pitcher LHP Zach Baldwin (5-7). Doc Brooks (1-5) led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on groundout by Nick McIntyre (0-4). A Juan Diaz (1-4) singled moved Brooks to third base. A sacrifice fly by Cory Harris (1-3) scored Brooks for a 1-0 JackHammers lead.

 

Joliet scored another run in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Steve Garrabrants (1-3). It was his fourth home run of the season and it gave the JackHammers a 2-0 lead.

 

The JackHammers pushed across another run in the sixth inning for a 3-0 lead. Garrabrants led off the inning with a walk and went to second base on a single by Chris Kinsey (1-3). A sacrifice bunt by Nick Prosise (3-3) moved both base runners into scoring position. Joe Hooft (2-3) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Brooks for a 3-0 Joliet lead.

 

Trolia allowed just three hits in his five innings. He walked four and struck out nine for the victory. Jared Sutton tossed two scoreless innings and Tyler Meigs worked the eighth inning. Ned Darley worked a scoreless ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.

 

Loose Gravel: Trolia, in his final start of the season, increased his strikeout total to 142. He shattered the JackHammers single-season strikeout record of 128 strikeouts held by Brian Mazone that was set back in 2002.

 

Loose Gravel: The JackHammers pitching staff recorded only two ground ball outs in the game on Saturday and both outs came in the ninth inning. Fehlandt Lentini (1-4) grounded into a double play turned by Joliet 3B Joe Hooft and Brent Metheny (0-3) grounded out to second base to end the game. The Goldeyes struck out 12 times against JackHammers pitching on Saturday.

 

The JackHammers wrap up their season tomorrow night with a match-up against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 5:05 p.m. Brandon Kintzler (6-6, 4.71) will get the start for the Goldeyes against a yet-to-be announced starter for the JackHammers. Pre-game coverage begins at 4:50 p.m. on AM 1340 WJOL and online at www.jackhammerbaseball.com.   Tomorrow night it’s Pepsi Fan Appreciation Night at Silver Cross Field followed by fireworks.
