GOLDEYES WIN 7-4

 

JOLIET, IL-The Winnipeg Goldeyes (50-44) scored six runs over the second and third innings to power their way to a 7-4 victory over the Joliet JackHammers before 4,616 fans at Silver Cross Field on Friday night. The JackHammers (42-52) loss and Kansas City’s win over Fargo-Moorhead means Joliet is now officially eliminated from the Northern League playoff race.

 

The Goldeyes scored three runs in the second inning against JackHammers starter Nate Sevier (4-9). Chad Ehrnsberger (1-3) and Tydus Meadows (1-4) worked back-to-back walks and each moved up one base on a wild pitch. Antoin Gray (3-5) hit a two-run single to give the Goldeyes a 2-0 lead.

 

Max Poulin (1-5) followed with an RBI triple to score Gray and make it a 3-0 lead.

 

Sevier lasted one and one-thirds innings and allowed three runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out one.

 

The JackHammers scored a single run in the second inning. Joey Gomes (1-3) and Steve Garrabrants (1-3) each worked walks. Nick Prosise (4-4) hit an RBI single to score Gomes and get the JackHammers within two runs at 3-1.

 

Winnipeg pushed across three more runs against LHP Dustin Taylor in the second inning to take a 6-1 advantage.

 

Joliet scored two runs in the fourth inning. Gomes led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on a walk issued to Wally Backman, Jr. (0-3) Prosise hit a single to load the bases. Joe Hooft (03) followed with a sacrifice fly to score Gomes from third base. An RBI single by Doc Brooks scored Backman, Jr. for a 6-3 Goldeyes advantage.

 

Winnipeg scored another run on an RBI single by Tydus Meadows (1-4) in the fifth inning. The JackHammers scored another run in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Juan Diaz (3-5) to get within three runs at 7-4.

 

The JackHammers and Goldeyes battle in game two of their three-game series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Zach Baldwin (5-6, 4.71) will get the start for the Goldeyes against RHP Aaron Trolia (8-6, 4.13) for the JackHammers.
