JACKHAMMERS WIN 5-4; SWEEP GOLDEYES
JOLIET, IL-The Joliet JackHammers (38-47) scored two runs in the eighth inning to come back from a 4-3 deficit and beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-4 before 5,458 fans at Silver Cross Field on Tuesday night. Nick Prosise (1-4) hit the game-winning RBI single in the eighth inning to give the JackHammers the win. The JackHammers complete the sweep of
The Goldeyes scored three runs in the first inning on a three-run home run by Kevin West (1-4) over the center field wall. Fehlandt Lentini (1-4) was hit by a pitch and moved to second base on a balk issued to
The JackHammers scored two runs in the second inning. Cory Harris (3-4) hit a leadoff single and stole second base. Joey Gomes (3-3) followed with a monstrous two-run home run over the center field wall to bring the JackHammers within one run at 3-2.
Lentini hit an RBI single in the fourth inning to score DJ Dixon (2-4) for a 4-2
In the sixth inning, the JackHammers took advantage of two errors to get within one run of the Goldeyes at 4-3. Juan Diaz (2-4) reached on an error and moved to second base on a single by Harris. Gomes singled to load the bases and Steve Garrabrants (1-3) reached on a fielder’s choice. Diaz was retired at the plate as Harris scored from third base on a throwing error by
The JackHammers scored two runs in the eighth inning to pull out the win. Diaz led off the inning with a single and Harris hit a single to move Diaz to second base. Gomes laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position for Garrabrants, who hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Diaz for a 4-4 tied score.
Prosise hit an RBI single to score Harris for a 5-4 JackHammers win.
Trolia lasted six innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. He walked four and struck out six to get a “no-decision.” Chad Fillinger (4-5) worked two scoreless innings to get the win. Ned Darley pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his second win.
