GOMES GIVES THE JACKHAMMERS A “WALK-OFF WINNER!”

 

JOLIET, IL-The Joliet JackHammers scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extra innings and got an RBI single from RF Joey Gomes (1-4) in the 10th inning to beat the Kansas City T-Bones before 2,544 fans at Silver Cross Field on Thursday night. The JackHammers (36-44) are now two full games behind Kansas City (38-42) for fourth place in the Northern League.

 

Kansas City scored two runs in the first inning against Joliet starter Dustin Taylor. Bo Hart (1-3) reached base on a one-out walk and moved to third base on a single by Greg Jacobs (3-4). A two-run double by Ken Harvey (2-5) gave Kansas City a 2-0 lead.

 

In the second inning, the JackHammers got on the board thanks to CF Cory Harris (2-5). He pulled a pitch over the left field wall for a solo shot against Kansas City starter Todd Moser to cut the lead down to 2-1.

 

The T-Bones increased their lead to two runs on a solo home run by John Martin (1-4) in the fifth inning to make it a 3-1 Kansas City advantage.

 

The JackHammers scored two runs in the ninth inning to the game at 3-3. Juan Diaz (0-3) led off the inning with a walk and went to second base on a walk issued to Doc Brooks (0-3). Harris reached base on an error by Kansas City 3B Eric Scriven to get the JackHammers within one run at 3-2. After Gomes walked and Joe Hooft (0-4) struck out, Nick Prosise (1-3) hit an RBI single to score Brooks to tie the game at 3-3.

 

In the 10th inning, Nick McIntyre (1-5) singled and went to second on a walk issued to Diaz. Brooks struck out and Harris popped out. Gomes lined a pitch into center field to score McIntyre for a Joliet victory.

 

Blake Ricken (1-0) picked up the win in relief for Joliet. He pitched one-third of an inning. Taylor got a no-decision by lasting four and two-thirds innings and allowing three runs on five hits.

 

Loose Gravel: The JackHammers released RHP Chris Buechner before the game tonight and activated LHP Jared Sutton from the inactive list. Sutton had a 1-0 record with a 1.80 ERA in May before being placed on the inactive list in late May.

 

The JackHammers begin a three-game series with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Friday night. RHP Aaron Trolia (8-5, 3.87) will start the game for Joliet against LHP Broc Coffman (8-5, 3.22) Pre-game coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1340 WJOL and online at www.jackhammerbaseball.com.
