Bridgeport, CT – July 10th – The Bridgeport Bluefish dropped an extra-inning nail-biter to the Lancaster Barnstormers by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. Bluefish closer Eddy Ramos (0-3) gave up a tenth inning two-run triple to Lancaster outfielder Jutt Hileman that led to the 'Stormer victory. Tommy John's crew drops their first series of the second half and now stands at 34-39 overall.
The 'Fish had to put together their own rally to get to extra frames. Trailing by a run heading into the eighth inning, catcher Brian Munhall snapped a 0-8 skid with a huge RBI triple over the head of Hileman in center field. Ryan Bear motored around from first to score his second run of the night to tie the ball game.
From there Ramos came on to keep the game close, working a strong ninth inning but unable to close things out in the tenth.
Bridgeport had the go-ahead run at the dish twice in the tenth inning but ultimately lost on an Alex Prieto strikeout, the 16th strikeout of the night by Bluefish hitters.
Offensive highlights for the Bluefish include Jesse Hoorelbeke's league-leading 16th home run of the year. The second inning solo shot put Bridgeport on the board and started up a three-run inning. Hoorelbeke finished one-for-five with the jack and Calvin Pickering recorded the only multi-hit game for the Park City Nine going two-for-five with a run scored.
Sendy Rleal (2-2) picked up the win for Lancaster with a hitless tenth inning of work. Judd Songster worked out of the jam in the tenth inning to earn his second save of 2008. The Lancaster bullpen allowed just four hits over their five innings of work with nine Bluefish batters struck out. Offensively for the 'Stormers Michael Woods (double, two runs) and Luis Perez (one run) both notched two hits.
The Bluefish and their 1-2 second half record now welcome the Newark Bears to town. Tim Drew (3-2) gets the start for Bridgeport tomorrow night and will face Carlos Mirabal (2-0). First pitch is 7:05 P.M. and the first 1,000 fans out to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard will receive a free Tommy John Bobble-Arm.
