GRIZZLIES TAKE GAME ONE OF THREE AT EVANSVILLE
EVANSVILLE, IL-The visiting Gateway Grizzlies scored four runs in the first inning Friday night, then held on for a 7-4 win over the Evansville Otters in front of 3,076 at Bosse Field.
Mike Breyman doubled in the first to drive in a pair and put the Grizzlies up 2-0. Michael Campbell singled later in the inning and the Grizzlies led 4-0 after one inning. It was the 24th time this season the Grizzlies (28-24) have scored at least one first inning run. They have now scored 70 first inning runs this season.
Breyman made it 5-1 Grizzlies with his 12th home run of the season in the sixth. He finished the night 2-4 with three RBIs.
Campbell finished 2-4 with the two RBIs.
The Otters (25-27) got as close as a run when Isaac Omura hit a three-run home run in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-4 Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies added a pair of two out runs in the eighth inning when John Alonso drove a two-run double down the left field line.
Derek Blacksher (7-3) earned the win for the Grizzlies. He went 6.2 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits. He struck out six and walked three. Eric Ridener added 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn his fourth save of the season. Ridener allowed just two infield hits and struck out two.
