SAUGET, IL-The Gateway Grizzlies swept a double-header from the Traverse City Beach Bums Thursday night, winning the opener 2-1 in nine innings before taking the nightcap 2-0 in front of 4,536 at GCS Ballpark.
Newly acquired Devin Collis (1-0) pitched six shutout innings in his Grizzlies debut in game two. He allowed only two hits while striking out three. Joel Boeschen earned his first save retiring the final two hitters in the seventh. Boeschen (3-1) pitched the ninth inning in game one to earn the win.
Mike Breyman was 2-3 with a double and an RBI triple to lead the Grizzlies (34-31) in game two. Michael Campbell drove in his team-leading 53rd RBI of the year with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
Stephen Holdren homered in the fourth inning, then scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning in game one. Holdren scored on an errant throw by Beach Bums' shortstop Damon Lessler.
The Grizzlies led the game 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but Traverse City (34-31) scored a run on a pair of hits in the inning to force extra innings.
