GRIZZLIES, RASCALS SPLIT "DOUBLE-HEADER"
SAUGET, IL-The Gateway Grizzlies and River City Rascals split a pseudo double-header Thursday night at GCS Ballpark. The Grizzlies won the completion of a suspended game 9-5, before the Rascals took the nightcap 4-1.
The Grizzlies (22-20) led 5-0 before the game was suspended in the fourth inning Wednesday night, but River City scored four unanswered runs when play resumed Thursday.
River City (21-21) led 5-4 heading into the home half of the eighth when the Grizzlies put the game away.
Chris Pecora drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-4. Robbie Minor followed with his first professional home run, a three-run shot that made it 9-4 Grizzlies.
Minor finished 2-4 with the three RBIs and two runs.
Erik Dessau (3-4) earned the win for the Grizzlies. Dessau tossed six innings, including two after play resumed Thursday night. He allowed three runs on seven hits. Adam Tollefson (3-1) suffered the loss for River City.
The Rascals got three first inning runs in the nightcap then held on for the 4-1 victory. A.J. Van Slyke and Ryan Wehrle had RBIs for the Rascals.
Demetri White (0-1) took the loss for the Grizzlies in game two.
