GRIZZLIES DROP SECOND TO MINERS
 

MARION, IL-The Gateway Grizzlies dropped four games behind West Division-leading Southern Illinois after a 6-3 loss to the Miners Saturday night at Rent One Park.

 

Southern Illinois (34-25) has won the first two games in a three-game series.  The Grizzlies have now dropped four of their last five games.

 

The Miners took an early lead off Grizzlies starter Brandon Williams (6-3).

 

Brad Miller hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to put Southern Illinois up 2-0.

 

The Grizzlies (30-39) answered with single runs in the second and third innings.  Mike Breyman drove in a run with a groundout in the second inning.  Chris Pecora added an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the third.

 

The Miners took the lead for good with a run in the third to go up 3-2.  They would go up 5-2 before the Grizzlies struck again.

 

Breyman drove in his second run of the night when he tripled in the eighth to score Charlie Lisk who had singled to start the inning.

 

Breyman finished the night 2-3 with the two RBIs.  He now has 47 to lead the club.  Lisk was 2-4.

 

Williams suffered the loss for the Grizzlies.  He pitched five innings allowing four runs on seven hits.  He struck out two and did not walk a batter.

 

The Grizzlies and the Miners wrap up the three-game series Saturday night with a 7:05 p.m. game at Rent One Park.
