GRIZZLIES DROP OPENER TO SLIDERS
The Gateway Grizzlies dropped the first game of a three-game series Friday night 5-3 to the Midwest Sliders. The loss came in front of a season-high 5,842 fans at GCS Ballpark.
The Grizzlies managed just four hits against four Sliders' pitchers.
Midwest (15-33) picked up a run on three hits to take a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
Mike Breyman answered in the fourth for the Grizzlies. Breyman led off the fourth inning with his 11th home run of the year to tie the score at one.
Sam Deluca capped a three-run fifth inning with a two-run homer to put the Sliders up 4-1.
The Grizzlies (25-24) added a pair of unearned runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-3. Robbie Minor drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Stephen Holdren singled to drive in another.
Justin Lilly (4-2) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. Lilly allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings. He struck out three.
