'FISH WASH AWAY RIVERSHARKS
Bridgeport, CT – July 27th – The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Camden Riversharks 1-0 in a rain-shortened contest on Sunday afternoon. The game lasted five innings including a 70-minute rain delay before it was called. The Bluefish take the series three games to one and improve to 11-5 in the second half.
Ryan DiPietro (3-3) shut out the Camden offense in his five innings of work. The 'Fish lefty scattered four hits and two walks and allowed just one runner in scoring position. Ryan Dittfurth (0-1) took the complete game loss, allowing Bridgeport's one run on two hits with three strikeouts.
The Bluefish scored their lone run in the fourth inning. Outfielder Steve Doetsch drilled a seeing-eye grounder down the left field line under the glove of third baseman Gabe Suarez. Jesse Hoorelbeke came around from first to score on Doetsch's second double of 2008. Hoorelbeke recorded the only other Bluefish base knock of the game in the second.
DiPietro came on in relief of Tim Drew who announced his retirement today. Drew started the contest and threw one pitch, a fastball on the corner to Shaun Boyd for a called strike. The former Major Leaguer's teammates congratulated him on the mound before Drew walked off the field to a stadium filled with applause. The brother of Major Leaguers J.D. (Boston) and Steven (Arizona) hangs it up after eleven season of professional baseball.
The Bluefish now travel to Southern Maryland to face the Blue Crabs for a three-game set starting Tuesday. Eric DuBose (6-2, 3.83) will take the hill to open the set and oppose Southern Maryland knuckleballer Joe Gannon (6-2, 3.74) in a battle of the league's ERA leaders.
