WHITE SOX PURCHASE CONTRACT OF THON

First Baseman to Report to “High A” Winston-Salem (NC) in the Carolina League

 

JOLIET, IL-JackHmamers First Baseman Freddie Thon, who started for the Chicagoland All-Star team in the Northern League All-Star Game last week, is heading back to affiliated ball with the Chicago White Sox. He departs the JackHammers with a .324 batting average, seven home runs and 35 RBI in 44 games played.

 

“Freddie is very deserving of going back to an organization,” said JackHammers manager Wally Backman. “I know he will fit in well and continue to perform.”

 

Thon came to the JackHammers after spending the last four seasons in the Texas Rangers organization. He finished his Rangers career by hitting .284 with 11 home runs and 66 RBI with high A Bakersfield of the California League in 2007. Originally an 18^th round draft choice out of high school in 2004, Thon makes his off-season home in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

 

Loose Gravel: Thon is the second JackHammer to have his contract purchase in 2008. The New York Yankees purchased the contract of RHP Drew Shetrone on June 18. He is 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA in nine appearances for short-season A Staten Island of the New York-Penn. League.
