JACKHAMMERS ANNOUNCE FIRST FOUR PARTICIPANTS IN THE “BUDWEISER LEGENDS GAME”

JOLIET, IL-Cubs legend Fergie Jenkins highlights the first four participants in the “Budweiser Legends Game” to be held on Saturday, August 9 at Silver Cross Field at 7:05 p.m. Jenkins, who will participate on a team of former Cubs, will face a former Cardinals team headlined by Tommie Herr, Ken Reitz and Bob Forsch. The full roster for the event will be announced in the coming weeks and as always, fans can purchase tickets to the game by calling (815) 726-BALL or by going online to www.jackhammerbaseball.com.

“This event is always something special,” said JackHammers Executive Vice President/General Manager Kelly Sufka. “I am excited about what surprises we have in store for our fans once the final roster is introduced!”

A National Baseball Hall of Fame member, Jenkins played on the north side for parts of ten seasons. He won 20 games or more for six consecutive seasons in a Cubs uniform from 1967-1972. A seven-time 20 game winner, he won the 1971 National League Cy Young Award when he went 24-13 with a 2.77 ERA in 39 starts.

“Jenkins is going to be a fan favorite,” added Sufka. “I can’t tell you how thrilled we are to have him on board!”

Herr had a distinguished career and appeared three times in the World Series for the Cardinals teams of the 1980s. A World Champion in 1982, Herr’s best season came in 1985 when he hit .302 with eight home runs and 110 RBI. Reitz spent nine of his 11 seasons in St. Louis. He did play one season with the Cubs 1981, where he hit .215 with two home runs and 28 RBI in a reserve role. Forsch played from 1974-1987 in St. Louis.  He went 20-7 with a 3.48 ERA in 38 starts for the Cardinals in 1977.
