FLYERS COME BACK FOR A 5-4 WIN
JOLIET, IL-The Schaumburg Flyers (25-42) rallied from a 4-2 deficit by scoring three runs in the ninth inning to beat the Joliet JackHammers 5-4 before 2,460 fans at Silver Cross Field on Wednesday night.
The Flyers scored a run in the second inning on a solo home run by Peanut Williams (2-4). It was his 10th home run of the season and it gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
The JackHammers scored their first run of the game in the third inning. Doc Brooks (0-3) walked with one out in the inning and stole second inning. Juan Diaz (1-5) hit an RBI single to single to score Brooks for a 1-1 tied score.
The Flyers scored a run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 2-2. Williams hit an RBI single to score
Nate Sevier started the game for the JackHammers. He pitched six innings and allowed two runs on six hits, while walking three and striking out six.
The JackHammers scored two runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 4-2. Hooft and Brooks started off the inning by working walks against Flyers RHP Jim Popp. Steve Garrabrants (1-3) hit a two-run double to score both runners and give the JackHammers a two-run lead.
The Flyers scored three runs in the ninth inning to earn a 5-4 lead. Rob Fischer (2-4) hit a one-out single and scored on a double by Lance Koenig (1-3) off of JackHammers closer Chris Kinsey (0-1). Mark Haske (1-5) singled Koenig to third, who scored on a fielder’s choice hit into by Julius Thames (2-4) to tie the game at 4-4.
Jermaine Allensworth (1-3) hit an RBI single to score
Loose Gravel: Cory Harris (1-4) was ejected from the game after arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Reggie Jackson.
