TROLIA BECOMES NORTHERN LEAGUE’S FIRST EIGHT-GAME WINNER
SCHAUMBURG, IL-RHP Aaron Trolia (8-3) worked six innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out 11, while the JackHammers scored five runs in the fifth inning and four runs in the seventh to earn a 13-4 victory over the Schaumburg Flyers before 3,988 fans at ALEXIAN Field on Tuesday night. The 11 strikeouts tie a single-game high for a JackHammers pitcher in 2008. Trolia originally set the mark on May 27 against the Flyers at Silver Cross Field.
The JackHammers pushed across a single run in the second inning against Flyers right-hander Brian Finch (0-5). Joey Gomes (2-5) hit a single to left field and moved to second base when Wally Backman, Jr. (1-5) pulled a single into right field. Dennis Blackmon, Jr. (1-5) grounded into a double to play to retire Backman, Jr. at second base and move Gomes to third. Nick Prosise (2-4) hit an RBI single to center field to score Gomes for a 1-0
The Flyers scored two runs against Trolia in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. Jermaine Allensworth (1-5) struck out but reached base on a past ball assessed to catcher Nick Prosise. Rob Fischer (1-4) was hit by a pitch and advanced to first base. Vince Harrison (1-5) hit an RBI single to score Allensworth. After Calvin Pickering (0-3) walked to load the bases, Peanut Williams (2-4) grounded into a double play to score Fischer for a 2-1 Flyers lead.
After the JackHammers scored the tying run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch by Finch, the club really went to work with five runs in the fifth inning. Mike Garcia (2-5) led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on a single by Joe Hooft (4-6). McIntyre hit an RBI single to score Garcia. After Steve Garrabrants (1-4) walked to load the bases, Cory Harris reached on an error by 2B Lance Koenig. Hootf scored on the error. The JackHammers scored three more runs in the inning, including a two runs on a single by Dennis Blackmon, Jr. to take a 7-2 lead.
The Flyers scored two runs in the sixth inning against Trolia. The win on Tuesday is his fourth of the season against the Flyers.
The JackHammers scored four more runs in the seventh inning to take an 11-4 lead. Garcia came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a three-run double against RHP Matt Varner for a 10-4 lead. An RBI single by Hooft made it 11-4.
Loose Gravel: The JackHammers made a roster move before the game, releasing IF Mike Caruso and signing RHP Chris Kinsey. Kinsey, most recently pitched at AAA Tucson of the Diamondbacks organization. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Tuesday.
