JOLIET, IL- The Joliet JackHammers (27-26) got home runs from Doc Brooks (1-3) and Joe Hooft (2-3) and six and two-thirds solid innings from RHP Aaron Trolia (7-3) to beat the Schaumburg Flyers 6-3 before 2,457 fans at Silver Cross Field on Wednesday night. The JackHammers are 2-1 on their seven-game home stand and look to win the four-game series against
The JackHammers scored a single run in the second inning against Flyers starting pitcher Brian Finch (0-4). Steve Garrabrants (1-3) hit a double and moved to third base on a wild pitch. A groundout by Cory Harris (0-4) scored Garrabrants for a 1-0 JackHammers lead.
In the third inning, the JackHammers scored two runs. Hooft hit a solo home run over the left field wall. It was his first home run of the season and it gave the JackHammers a 2-0 lead. Brooks followed with a walk and moved to third on a single by Nick McIntyre (1-4). Garrabrants lifted a sacrifice fly to score Brooks to make it 3-0.
The JackHammers sealed victory with three runs in the fourth inning. Wally Backman, Jr. (4-4) hit a one-out single and scored on a double by Nick Prosise (1-4). Brooks hit a two-run home run over the right field wall for a 6-0 advantage.
Trolia pitched into the seventh and allowed three runs, (two earned runs), on six hits. He walked four and struck out nine. The Flyers scored two runs in the fifth inning. Hank Lanto (0-3) worked a walk and scored on a double by Mark Haske (2-4). An error allowed Haske to move to third base and he scored on a single by Jermaine Allensworth (3-5).
The Flyers scored a single run in the seventh inning against Trolia. Chad Fillinger worked one and one-thirds scoreless innings of middle relief. Tyler Meigs pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his sixth save of the season.
