GOLDEYES BEAT JACKHAMMERS 7-2 ON SUNDAY
JOLIET, IL-The Winnipeg Goldeyes (27-21) got home runs from Brent Metheny (2-5), Jeff DeSmidt (1-3) and Tydus Meadows (1-4) and solid pitching from right-handed starter Andrew Walker (3-3), who went seven innings runs to beat the Joliet JackHammers 7-2 before 3,485 fans at Silver Cross Field on Sunday afternoon. The JackHammers head to the Northern League all-star break with a 24-23 record in third place in the Northern League and will resume play on Thursday night in
The Goldeyes scored a single run in the first inning against
The JackHammers erased the deficit and took the lead with two outs in the bottom of the third inning. Nick McIntyre (1-3) singled to left before Doc Brooks (1-4) hit his 7th home run of the season, a line drive to right field off
The Goldeyes responded with two in the top of the fourth inning. Antoin Gray (0-3) led off with a walk, and DeSmidt followed with a sacrifice bunt. Max Poulin (2-4) and Lentini connected for back-to-back RBI doubles, and the Goldeyes went up 3-2. Meadows increased the Goldeyes lead when he led off the top of the fifth inning with a home run to left field, his 6th of the year.
Sevier left the game after six innings. He allowed four runs on eight hits and walked just one man while striking out five.
In the seventh inning, the Goldeyes scored a run on a solo home run by Metheny. It was his third home run of the series and it gave the Goldeyes a 5-2 advantage.
DeSmidt hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to increase the lead to 7-2.
