BLUEFISH RALLY COMES UP SHORT, YORK PREVAILS
Bridgeport, CT – June 23rd – The Bridgeport Bluefish fell to the York Revolution on Monday by a final of 4-3. It marks the fourth consecutive loss for the 'Fish as they drop to 27-30 on the season. The Revolution improves to 23-34 behind a strong start from Aaron Rakers (4-5). The York righty held the Bluefish to one unearned run on three hits over his six frames with five strikeouts.
The Revs offense received a jolt of life in the fifth inning when infielder Sam Rosario blasted his first home run in a York uniform. The two-run shot off Bluefish starter Rafael Bergstrom (3-4) plated Kennard Jones and gave the Revs a 3-0 lead. Bergstrom lasted 6.1 innings and gave up four runs (three earned) with two walks and three strikeouts to suffer his third loss in as many starts. Rosario finished two-for-three and Matt Esquivel also added two hits for the Revs.
The Bluefish had all the makings of a rally in the bottom of the eighth inning. Travis Ezi struck out swinging but advanced to first on a passed ball with two outs to extend the inning. From there the wheels began to fall off for York reliever Dave Veres, as he gave up a single to Henry Mateo, an RBI single to Luis Lopez and a walk to Jesse Hoorelbeke. With the bases loaded Nick McCurdy was brought in to slam the door on the Bridgeport rally. Ryan Bear greeted him with an RBI single but then McCurdy made a tremendous play on a slow chopper past the mound by Calvin Pickering to end the inning. Lopez (RBI) and Hoorelbeke (double) both finished the day with two hits a piece. McCurdy continued on to pitch the ninth for his fourth save of the year.
The Bluefish will turn to their most reliable starter as of late in Eric DuBose (2-2) to stop the losing streak tomorrow night. York will send Aaron Myette (4-5) to the bump to oppose the Bluefish southpaw. First pitch is 7:05 P.M.
