PATS BEAT UP ON BLUEFISH

Bridgeport, CT – June 13^th – The Bridgeport Bluefish were unable to string any offense together while the Somerset Patriots put an array of hits on the board to beat the 'Fish 9-2.  Somerset starter Andy Van Hekken dominated Bluefish hitters as his Patriots move to a league-best 28-17 on the season.  Bridgeport has lost three straight games to fall to 24-23 on the year.

Van Hekken was masterful in his seven innings of work.  He allowed seven hits and struck out nine batters on 102 pitches.  The one run he allowed was on a first inning solo homer by Bluefish second baseman Henry Mateo.  Bluefish starter Rafael Bergstrom lasted four innings and gave up eight runs (six earned) on eight hits.

Despite just scoring two runs the Bluefish did have 11 base knocks on the evening.  Six Bridgeport hitters had two hits while Travis Ezi and Mateo both drove in a run apiece.

Vito Chiaravalloti and Travis Anderson recorded three hits and scored two runs each for the Patriots.  Elliott Ayala went two-for-five on the evening and drove in four of the Pats nine runs. 

The Bluefish look to snap their losing streak tomorrow night in game two of the series.  Eric DuBose (1-2) takes the mound for Bridgeport to square off against Steve Kelly (4-3).  First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. and features a fireworks display after the game.
